US farm groups join GMO accord

Three major US farming groups have signed up to an industry agreement on the maintenance of foreign authorisations and stewardship obligations for genetically modified crops after patents expire. The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF), the American Soybean Association (ASA) and the National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) signed the Generic Event Marketability and Access Agreement (GEMAA) this month. It came into effect in November 2012 after BASF, Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, DuPont and Monsanto signed the accord ( Agrow No 653, p 19).
