Brazil tribunal to audit Anvisa procedures

The Brazilian federal audit tribunal, the TCU, is to carry out a review of the national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa’s, control procedures on approving the commercialisation of pesticides, the official news agency, Agencia Brasil, reports. The move comes in response to a request from the parliamentary commission on agriculture, following official complaints from a former Anvisa manager that “at least seven products had been approved without the necessary toxicological evaluation” ( Agrow No 653, p 22). The audit will concentrate on assessing the effectiveness of control procedures on toxicological evaluation reports, which are among the requirements for product approvals.
