DDAC agchem withdrawal date set in EU
The European Commission has instructed EU member states to withdraw agrochemical approvals for the fungicide, didecyldimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC), by June 20th 2013. They may set a grace period of up to one year for use of existing stocks. The active ingredient was originally approved for indoor use on ornamentals. The EU registration was conditional on the submission of further data on the specification. However, the Commission decided that information submitted by Swiss chemical company Lonza was incomplete ( Agrow No 658, p 8). The ai may still be used in the biocide sector and recently gained approval for use in wood preservatives (see this issue).
