Argentine agchem container recycling up 22%
The collection and/or recycling of empty pesticide containers rose by 22% in Argentina in 2012, according to the Casafe. Its Agrolimpio programme oversaw the collection of 3,775 tonnes of such containers. That represented over a third (34%) of material available to collect, the association notes. The programme brings together various sectors in the product chain on a voluntary basis along with regional and local government, and uses the triple wash method for recycling the containers. Agrolimpio director Ernesto Sato says that each province works on a separate basis with some collecting all year round while others opening seasonally or at defined periods. The material is recycled into various products.
