Sth Am trade bloc extends agchem re-eval deadline
The four South American nations of the Andean Community trading bloc, the CAN, have extended the period for the re-evaluation of several chemical pesticides. Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru adopted Decision 785 in Lima, Peru, earlier this month. It extends the deadline for those pesticides that still required re-approval under existing CAN regulation, Decision 436, until June 25th 2019. A member state competent authority will decide on granting approvals and any rejection will cancel any previous registration. Those previous registrations stand until a re-evaluation decision is reached, while approvals granted prior to the enactment of Decision 436 become void on June 25th 2019 and will be cancelled. Decision 436 of 1998 and amendments to it set the harmonised pesticide registration regime in the union ( Agrow No 422, p 21).
