Brazil CTNBio to issue 2012 activity report
The Brazilian technical commission for biosafety, the CTNBio, is to issue a report on its activities in 2012 in the coming couple of weeks, the Ministry of Science reports. It will reveal the examined product approval processes, referrals data and other activities through the year. Commission president Flavio Finardi Filho says the move is part of the body’s attempt to improve transparency. The report will provide a general idea of what the CTNBio does and it will be available from the commission’s website, it says. The commission made the announcement at its 160th ordinary meeting earlier this month. It had nine genetically modified products on its agenda for potential approvals, but no decisions were made on any of them. All nine remain under analysis in subcommittees.
