EU bodies vote for flexible CAP greening

Political and national European representatives want to relax the requirements of the European Commission’s proposed mandatory “greening” measures for the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). In separate votes in March, the European Parliament and EU Agriculture Ministers adopted packages of amendments that would introduce more flexibility into measures related to crop diversification and creating “ecological focused areas” (EFAs). Both bodies agreed adjustments that were largely similar to those put forward by the Parliament’s Agriculture Committee ( Agrow No 657, p 8).
