UK agencies question neonicotinioid harm to bees

The UK Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Food, Environment and Research Agency (FERA) have questioned the validity of studies claiming harmful effects of neonicotinoid insecticides on bees. Their opinion is based on research conducted by the FERA to explore the impacts of neonicotinoids on bumble bees in field conditions and the DEFRA’s assessment of the key evidence about neonicotinoids and bees to help inform national and international considerations of this issue.
