China OKs monosulfuron ester project

A 12-year project to develop the sulfonylurea herbicide, monosulfuron ester, has passed a final inspection from the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, reports the state-run Chinese news service, Xinhua. The programme was headed by China’s Nankai University national pesticide research engineering centre. Monosulfuron ester has been developed specifically for use on wheat crops in northern China, and tests have seen the herbicide reduce weeds on over 6,000 ha of wheat crops in the Tianjin area by over 95%.
