EU updates crop list in MRL rules
The European Commission has updated the crops covered by EU-wide maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticides. The changes have been made to the list in Annex I of the EU pesticide MRL Regulation (396/2005), which introduced harmonised MRLs in September 2008 ( Agrow No 551, p 14). The revision has been requested by EU member states to reflect new fruits, vegetables and cereals that have since become available in the region. They are grouped according to crops already in the list and added to the column “examples of related varieties or other products to which the same MRL applies”. Over 50 fruits, vegetables and cereals have been added. Further amendments specify the parts of products to which MRLs apply, to reflect the form in which they are sold, such as tea, cocoa beans, hops and kohlrabi.
