Australia to OK Sumitomo termiticide
The Australian Agrochemicals and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed the approval of Sumitomo Chemical’s termiticide, Xterm Defence Against Termites (bistrifluron 1%), for the control of subterranean termites (except Mastotermes darwiniensis). Bistrifluron would be approved as a new active ingredient that acts as an insect growth regulator through chitin synthesis inhibition. The product is formulated as 60 g and 120 g tablets for use in above-ground and in-ground bait stations. Bistrifluron was developed by South Korean agrochemical company Dongbu Hannong as DBI-3204. The APVMA’s approval decision is open to public comment until May 9th.
