Chile ups agchem container recycling in 2012

The recycling of empty pesticide containers rose by 8% in Chile in 2012 compared with the previous year, the national crop protection industry association, the Afipa, reports. Its recycling programme recorded the collection of 252.3 tonnes. That included over 993,000 containers, of which some 99% were recycled. Some 53% were sent for “thermal recycling as an alternative fuel source” and 46% to “physical recycling”. The remaining 1% were disposed of. The Afipa added to its nationwide network of recycling stations and mobile collection units. By February of this year, it had 31 such stations and 23 mobile units.
