Canada to OK Novozymes bioinsecticide
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has proposed the approval of Danish company Novozymes’ bioinsecticide, Met52 EC ( Metarhizium anisopliae strain F52), for the control of whiteflies and thrips on greenhouse food crops and to suppress hairy chinch bugs ( Blissus hirtus) and ticks on turf. A granular formulation, Met52 Granular, is already approved for the control of black vine weevils ( Otiorhynchus sulcatus) and strawberry root weevils ( O ovatus) in container-grown ornamentals. Novozymes’ US subsidiary, Novozymes BioAg (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), is introducing both formulations in the US ( Agrow No 658, p 19). The PMRA decision is open to public comment until May 11th.
