Spain grants BASF Goldor Bait 120-day use
Spain granted emergency 120-day use authorisation for BASF’s insecticide, Goldor Bait (fipronil), for use on potatoes at the start of the year, national media report. It is approved for the control of common cutworms ( Agrotis lineatus) until April 30th. The new granular formulation and application style – at time of planting and within the furrow – acts before the arrival of the pest. The formulation provides a “highly effective” attractant on low active ingredient doses, the company says. The application rate is 10 kg/ha. Fipronil is established in Spain for use on potatoes as Regent. Goldor Bait was granted a 120-day exceptional use approval in Germany three years ago for the control of wireworms ( Limonius spp) on potatoes ( Agrow No 585, p 14).
