The European Commission has issued formal EU approvals for ten new active ingredients. They were cleared by the EU regulatory committee in March ( Agrow No 662, p 7). The ais are: Bayer CropScience’s fungicide, bixafen, and its insecticide/acaricide, spiromesifen; Nissan Chemical’s herbicide, halosulfuron-methyl; Biological Crop Protection’s insecticide/acaricide, maltodextrin; Luxembourg Industries’ fungicide, potassium phosphonate; Bayer’s bionematicide, Bacillus firmus strain I-1582; Bionext’s biofungicide, Candida oleophila strain O; Andermatt Biocontrol’s bioinsecticides, Helicoverpa armigera nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) and Spodoptera littoralis NPV; and Spanish company FuturEco’s nematicide, Paecilomyces fumosoroseus strain Fe 9901. The two viral pesticides will be added to the list of approved ais in the EU agrochemical registration Regulation (1107/2009) on June 1st, with the rest to be added on October 1st.
