EU deal reached on ais in water

Representatives of EU member states and the European Parliament have reached an informal agreement that would see six agrochemical active ingredients and one non-crop biocide added to chemicals that are subject to water pollution controls. The addition of the ais was proposed last year by the European Commission as part of a group of substances to be regulated under the EU water framework Directive (2000/60 – Agrow No 633, p 10). The pesticides are: the herbicides, aclonifen and bifenox; the insecticides, cypermethrin and heptachlor; the acaricide, dicofol; and the fungicide, quinoxyfen. The biocide is the insecticide/acaricide, dichlorvos.
