US NAS urges co-ordination on pesticides and endangered species

The US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) recommends that the EPA, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) use a common scientific approach in determining the potential effects of pesticides on threatened or endangered species. If the NMFS and the FWS could build on the EPA’s analysis of whether a pesticide was likely to adversely affect a listed species rather than conducting a completely new analysis, the assessment would “likely be more effective and scientifically credible”, the NAS states.
