Australia OKs Monsanto's GM cotton tests
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has determined that Monsanto’s planned field trials of its genetically modified dicamba- and glufosinate-tolerant MON88701 cotton pose negligible risks to health and the environment. The company plans to test the cotton in combination with its commercially approved glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready Flex (MON88913) and insect-resistant Bollgard II (MON15985) and the unregistered insect-resistant COT102 cotton, which produces the Bt Vip3A toxin. The tests would be conducted between October 2013 and October 2019 ( Agrow No 658, p 20). The OGTR’s risk assessment and risk management plan is open to public comment until June 11th.
