Brazil Anvisa to probe agchem spraying case
The Brazilian health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, is launching an investigation into a pesticide aerial spraying incident over a school full of pupils in the state of Goais. Agency president Dirceu Barbano told a lower house of Parliament society commission’s public hearing that it would work with the police on the issue. “We avoided a tragedy only by the swift actions of the health authorities and their identifying the product, allowing the correct treatment of children and teachers.” The agency is giving evidence along with regional public health authorities on their current major concerns. It notes that 69% of local authorities possess such regulatory bodies.
