Australian industry urges Senate veto of regulatory reforms

The Australian agvet chemical industry association, CropLife Australia, has urged the Australian Senate to reject the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Legislation Amendment Bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives on May 16th. The Association’s chief executive officer, Matthew Cossey, acknowledges that the Bill contains “necessary reforms”, but he remains critical of the addition of “287 new pages of regulation to the rule book for an already inefficient and costly regulatory system”. Mr Cossey raised similar concerns when the Bill was introduced to Parliament in November 2012 ( Agrow No 654, p 16).
