1R-trans phenothrin biocide close to EU approval
The European Commission has proposed the approval of 1R-trans phenothrin as a non-crop insecticide. The ai was assessed under the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8) as part of the review of existing biocides. Sumitomo Chemical supported the ai through the review, where it was originally described as a form of d-phenothrin containing at least 89% of 1R-trans phenothrin. The Commission states that the EU approval would only apply to 1R-trans phenothrin, not any other substance complying with the definition of d-phenothrin. EU Ministers have cleared the proposal, which will come into force following publication in the EU Official Journal.
