Brazil bans methamidophos as industry calls for quicker registration of new ais
Brazilian authorities have banned use of the organophosphate insecticide methamidophos starting June 30, 2012. Marketing of the product is to end at the end of 2011. The registration of the active ingredient (ai) will be cancelled on Dec. 31, 2012, maintained until that date exclusively for monitoring of residues. The national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, issued a resolution on Jan. 17 in the country's official gazette phasing out use of the ai.
