Bulgaria bans GM corn cultivation - Bulgaria has banned the cultivation of Monsanto's genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize, reports Bulgarian newswire Novinite. It becomes the eighth EU member state to do so after Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Luxembourg. The country's parliament passed amendments to its GMO Act last year that made the commercial cultivation of GM crops almost impossible. MON810 is the only GM corn line approved for cultivation in the EU.
