Dazomet cleared for EU re-registration
The fumigant dazomet was cleared for re-registration by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health at its March meeting. The decision to list the active ingredient in Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration directive (91/414) requires formal adoption by the European Commission and will come into force on June 1. Kanesho Soil Treatment (Brussels, Belgium) hails the decision, pointing out that dazomet is the first soil fumigant to be listed in the annex. The company resubmitted its application for EU approval in 2009 after the original evaluation identified data gaps. Kanesho Soil Treatment is a joint venture between Agro-Kanesho and Mitsui & Co. Agro-Kanesho sells dazomet as Basamid for use on specialty crops worldwide. It is distributed by Mitsui subsidiary Certis Europe in the EU and by American Vanguard in the U.S.
