Maine: The state legislature's Joint Standing Committee on Environment and Natural Resources on March 25 unanimously approved a ban on reusable food and beverage containers with bisphenol A, starting in 2012, the Bangor Daily News reports. The Maine Board of Environmental Protection recommended the ban last December, subject to legislative approval. The full legislature will now consider the ban. Republican Gov. Paul LePage, who has faced backlash over controversial comments he made about the chemical's effects, maintains the regulation should not go into effect.
