House Republicans, industry keen to extend existing chemical security rules

The current chemical security rules should be extended - but not altered - in order to give the Department of Homeland Security time to fully implement its program and to provide businesses with regulatory certainty, industry officials and Republicans said at a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee hearing Thursday. The hearing marked the first look at the H.R. 908, a bipartisan bill that would extend the existing Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) for seven years without change.
