Brazil court overturns state ban on 2,4-D
A Brazilian national court has overturned the ban on the herbicide 2,4-D in the state of Parana. A 1999 state law prohibited the sale and use of 2,4-D. The law was contested at the Supreme Federal Tribunal. It delivered its verdict last month, finding the banning order unconstitutional, as the product is registered by national authorities. The tribunal cited article 30 of the national constitution. The herbicide is approved in Brazil for use on 11 crops, and nine companies market it across the country.
