Study: Environmentally induced conditions in kids cost $76.6 billion in 2008

In an update to a 2002 study that put the annual health care costs of "environmentally mediated diseases in American children" at $54.9 billion, a new expanded analysis published in the May issue of Health Affairs finds that in 2008, lead poisoning, childhood cancer, asthma, intellectual disabilities, autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder -- all conditions linked to environmental toxins and pollutants -- cost $76.6 billion.
