Carbendazim's EU approval renewed
The European Commission has renewed the EU approval for the restricted use of the fungicide carbendazim for 3.5 years starting June 1. It has also added fodder beet to the list of crops that may be treated with the active ingredient. The commission went ahead with the renewal without majority support from EU member states. Several raised concerns over the ai's hazardous properties, as they had also done at the time of its previous three-year reregistration. The limited approval period, rather than the normal 10 years, reflects these concerns, the commission notes.
