EU ministers adopt opinion on biocide changes
EU ministers in June formally adopted their proposed amendments to European Commission plans to revise the EU Biocidal Products Directive 98/8, which covers non-crop pesticides. They have accepted many of the several hundred amendments put forward by the European Parliament last September, rejected others and added some of their own. The document now goes forward for further negotiations between EU member states, members of the European Parliament and the commission. The revision is closely following the approach recently adopted in new agrochemical registration rules, including the introduction of hazard criteria that may restrict or ban active ingredients.
