Biotech opponents have destroyed an experimental field of sunflowers produced through mutagenesis in the French region of Drôme, which they claimed contained "hidden GMOs," according to Agence France Presse. The sunflowers were being tested to find solutions to ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) infestation. This is the second such act of vandalism in a bid to include plants produced through mutagenesis and treated as genetically engineered crops. A sunflower field at Feyzin in the Rhone region was destroyed last month. A parliamentary committee monitoring the risk of ragweed has denounced the action as an act of vandalism.
