Brazil Parliament commission questions agchem use

The Brazilian lower house of Parliament, the House of Deputies, recently hosted a public hearing on the marketing, inspections and implications from the use of pesticides in the country. Representatives from industry, large and small-scale farmers, and the Ministry of Health voiced their concerns to the House's Social Security Commission. The national farmers' union, the CNA, defended the "modernization" of pesticide use, while representatives from the national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, spoke of the harm to human health from their use, and a spokesperson from a small-scale farmer union called for an end to their use.
