Germany, U.K. propose regulatory definition for endocrine disruptors

A joint position paper between Germany and the United Kingdom posted recently on the website of Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment proposes a regulatory definition for an endocrine disruptor. The definition was prompted by the new EU Plant Protection Products Regulation under which active ingredients, safeners and synergists with endocrine disrupting properties that may cause adverse human health effects can't be approved unless exposure is negligible. A similar provision has been included in the proposed EU Biocidal Products Regulation, and substances with endocrine disrupting properties might be labeled substances of very high concern under REACH.
