GM crop regulatory submission times on the increase

The time taken for companies to prepare and manage regulatory submissions for genetically modified crops has increased significantly over the past decade, according to a study conducted by UK consultancy Phillips McDougall on behalf of CropLife International. The time for registration and regulatory affairs activities has risen from an average of 44.5 months for events introduced before 2002 to 65.5 months in 2011. If the trend continues, it could have a significant impact on the cost of regulatory testing and authorisation in future years, Phillips McDougall points out.
