RNAi effective against plant parasites

Researchers at the US California University (Davis) have developed a method for controlling the parasitic plant, dodder ( Cuscutapentagona) on tobacco using RNA interference (RNAi). The work exploits RNA transfer between host and parasite. For this reason, genetic modifications that confer herbicide tolerance to host plants do not confer resistance to parasitic plants, as the parasite benefits from host-expressed tolerance proteins.
