High-protein cassava claims retracted

A study published last year detailing the development of genetically modified high-protein cassava ( Agrow No 612, p 27) has been retracted after investigations by one of the research institutions involved. The cassava expressed a zeolin gene that was claimed to increase protein content by some 12%. In its retraction notice, the US-based Donald Danforth Plant Science Center (St Louis, Missouri) said: “Significant amounts of data and supporting documentation that were claimed to be produced by the first author could not be found, and …. the validity of the results could not be verified". The study was published in the journal, PLoS One.
