Pest pressure drives host evolution

Pest pressure can drive the evolution of genetic variations in a single plant species within a geographic area, according to a study carried out by researchers in the US and Europe. The researchers found that differences in the defence chemicals regulated by one polymorphic defence locus in geographically separated populations of thale cress were directly related to the distribution of particular aphid species.
