RNAi shows three-fold toxicity over Bt toxins

Researchers from Monsanto have published the results of a study of how RNA interference (RNAi) can be used against two important coleopteran pests, western corn rootworms (WCR – Diabrotica virgifera virgifera) and southern corn rootworms ( D undecimpunctata howardi). They showed that the oral delivery of synthetic double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) in an artificial diet bioassay or in transgenic maize was up to three times more effective than the Bt Cry3Bb1 toxin against WCR.
