Whitefly transcriptome study reveals keys to success

Researchers have completed a comparative study of gene transcripts from three members of the whitefly ( Bemisia tabaci) complex in an effort to identify factors responsible for the invasive success of some strains. The complex contains more than 30 cryptic species, of which the Middle East-Asia Minor 1 (Meam1) and Mediterranean (Med) have invaded many countries and displaced native whitefly species during the past 20 years.
