Wheat sowing up in India

The area under wheat in India has gone up by 2.9% to 28.7 million ha this year, says the Indian Ministry of Agriculture. This is the highest area under the crop in years, the previous peak being 28.2 million ha in 2007 ( Agrow No 539, p 20). There has been an increase in the area under pulses as well, which has risen by 4.3% to 14.5 million ha. Sowing of coarse cereals and oilseeds has fallen by 4.9% and 4.4%, respectively.
