Record Canadian canola area
The area of canola planted in Canada this year is set to rise by 4.4% to a record 16.9million acres (6.8 million ha), according to Statistics Canada’s March survey of planting intentions. That would be the fourth consecutive annual rise in the canola area. Most of the increase is expected to take place in Saskatchewan, where farmers indicate a record 8.6 million acre crop. Expansion is also forecast for Alberta, but the canola area in Manitoba is expected to fall slightly.
