Japanese four-month agchem sales down 17%
Agrochemical sales in Japan fell by 16.7% to ¥84,803 million ($913 million at the current rate) during the first four months of the pesticide year (October 1st 2009 to January 31st 2010), compared with the same period in the previous year. The figures come from the Japan Crop Protection Association. Volumes saw a steeper decline, falling 25.5% to 48,133 tonnes. Prices rose by 2.3% in the 2009 pesticide year (ended September 30th), although volumes for the same period were down by 5.4% to 206,553 tonnes ( Agrow No 586, p 19).
