Industry downturn reflected in top 20 ranking
Only one agrochemical major recorded double-digit sales growth in dollar terms in 2009. That contrasts with more than three-quarters of the companies in Agrow’s top 20 ranking posting growth of more than 15% in the previous year ( Agrow No 574, pp 2-3). The notable exception in 2009 was Nihon Nohyaku, with a 10.5% increase that was largely due to the strengthening of the Japanese currency. Sales were flat in yen terms. Only BASF among the top six multinationals recorded growth in dollar terms ( Agrow No 588, p 2).
