Quintozene order holds back Amvac's Q3 sales gains

Strong sales of the insecticides, Bidrin (dicrotophos) and Thimet (phorate), contributed to a 9% increase in American Vanguard’s crop protection revenues to $62 million in the third quarter of 2010. However, non-crop pesticide sales fell by 37% to $6 million, largely due to the EPA’s “stop sale” order against the company’s quintozene (PCNB)-based fungicides. Amvac failed in a legal bid to gain emergency relief from the order ( Agrow No 599, p 12) and is seeking a preliminary injunction against the Agency.
