Argentine crop area up slightly

The Argentine crop area for the 2010/11 season is to rise slightly, the Ministry of Agriculture says. The more complete November survey has largely confirmed the findings in October of major crops for soybeans, maize and wheat ( Agrow No 603, p 16), and projects an overall 6.6% rise in the area for the major oilseed and cereal crops. The first survey of the new season to estimate the sorghum area shows that 27% of the intended area of just over 1 million ha has been planted. The first findings for barley are of a 13.5% rise to 618,500 ha, and a 16% increase to 257,000 ha for peanuts.
