Record Australia wheat area forecast

The area planted with winter wheat in Australia is expected to rise by 6.6% to a record 14.3 million ha in 2011/2012, according to the first seasonal forecast by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES). The expansion is attributed to good soil moisture levels in the eastern states and favourable grain prices. Increased plantings are anticipated in all states.
