Amvac up 8% in third quarter
Strong demand for insecticides and herbicides boosted American Vanguard’s agrochemical sales by 8.2% to $73.8 million in the third quarter of 2011. Insecticide sales were up by some 27% to $21.6 million. Growth was led by the company’s granular soil insecticides, which posted a 73% rise in revenues. Sales of Counter (terbufos) were up by 54% due to strong demand for use on bananas in Latin America. Thimet (phorate) saw a 26% increase, primarily for use on sugar cane. Mocap (ethoprophos) and Nemacur (fenamiphos), which were acquired from Bayer CropScience last year ( Agrow No 606, p 3), accounted for about 40% of insecticide sales.
