Argentine crop area rises

The Argentine oilseed and cereal area for the 2011/12 season has risen by around 2.9% to 31.7 million ha, according to the Ministry of Agriculture. The figures come from its November survey, and do not include data for sorghum. It amounted to just over 1 million ha last year ( Agrow No 605, p 17). The three major crops are all up on last year. The soybean area has inched ahead by less than 1% to touch 19 million ha, while those for maize and cotton have risen by around 8% and 5%, respectively.
