California pesticide use up 10% in 2010
The use of pesticides subject to reporting requirements in the US state of California rose by 9.5% to 173.2 million lbs (78,568 tonnes) in 2010, according to the latest survey by the California EPA’s Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR). That follows a four-year decline in pesticide use in the state ( Agrow No 607, p 17). The volume of pesticides for agricultural use rose by 8% to 158.1 million lbs. Other use categories also increased, with post-harvest fumigant applications rising by 44% to 2.1 million lbs.
