Bayer agchem sales flat in Q4
Bayer CropScience’s crop protection sales barely inched higher to €1,371 million ($1,813 million at the current rate) in the fourth quarter of 2011. The sales comparison was against a strong final three months in 2010 ( Agrow No 611, pp4-5). Sales of herbicides and fungicides saw modest growth, while seed treatment business boomed. The phase out of some older insecticides impacted sales. It accelerated the phase-out of all of its remaining WHO Class I insecticides ( Agrow No 624, p 3). The seed and trait BioScience business grew strongly in the final quarter. Sales were up by over 20% to €157 million. That resulted in 2.1% growth for the combined fourth-quarter sales of the two businesses at €1,528 million.
